JDM Cars
JDM cars are the latest fashion in up and coming automotive modification the term jdm litartly stands form Japanese domestic market. This means that the cars that are in the JDM car scene are cars that originally were deisgned and sometimes sold in japan.
The style is very subtle comparted to other kinds of car modification. Ricers for example will modify their cars to look like they go very fast – when in all probability they are not. You know the type – people with huge spoilers and fenders zooming along at 10mph looking like they are from the fast and furious. When in all porbabliity they can be overtaken by my nanas Nissan micra.
JDM cars are much more understated – a huge emphasis is placed on cleanliness and sublet modifications. The term function over fashion is used a lot. Basically for a jdm car all modifications need to have a performance enhancing aspect.
Getting a spoiler on a jdm car for example – most ricers and boy racers who put spoilers on their car get the biggest ones possible. Adding huge weight – and too much down force meaning the car is actually slower. This is not how a jdm car enthusiast works – a jdm cars spoiler is usually small, and lightweight – probably made from carbon fibre. Meaning that there is an actual performance enhancing aspect to the vehicle alongside a great looking modification.
Several cars come into the jdm category – for example Honda, Nissan, Toyota, and Lexus are some of the more popular ones. With things like auras coming in a close second.
Many JDM cars are what are called daily drivers – meaning that the cars are used for day to day use, going to work, the shops, wherever. Again this links into the JDM performance philosophy – the faster the better.
Trailer queens are JDM cars that are unashamedly not driven in the daily routine of their owner’s lives. They are kept in a garage and VERY clean – and they Are only ever taken out to be put on display at car shows – while these cars look very attractive, you probably don’t want to go very fast in them as a small bump will ruin some of the brilliant jdm body work.
I’m in love with jdm cars and have been for years – while more and more people come into the scene it is getting more mainstream. Some of the old school jdm guys don’t like this – not me, I love it! The more fresh blood the JDM car modification scene gets – the more exposure we get, and the more products and events will be held for us jdm car enthusiasts.
